Candidate Biography
Thanks for visiting my site and taking an interest in my campaign. I am a 34 year old native of Orlando. I grew up in College Park with my parents, Joan and Dan Ruffier, and my brother and sister, Bill and Margaret. I attended Lake Silver Elementary (I can still sing the school song), Lee Junior High and Edgewater High School. While at Edgewater, I rowed on the crew team, served as President of the National Honor Society and earned my Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts of America.
After graduating high school, I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and English. From there, I went on to get my law degree from the University of Florida. Upon graduating from law school, I returned to Orlando to work at Orlando’s largest law firm: Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed. I am now a partner and shareholder in the firm, where I specialize in helping clients buy and finance commercial real estate.
Ever since graduating from law school I’ve volunteered my time to try and make our city a better place to live. Early on, I worked on the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” fundraiser. Since then, I’ve served on the Board of Directors for the Hope and Help Center located in Winter Park, the City of Orlando’s Public Art Advisory Board, and the Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Center Board of Directors. I currently serve on the board of directors for the Coalition for the Homeless and volunteer for the Human Rights Campaign’s emerging community committee for Central Florida.
I love this city–it has always been my home and I hope it always will be. That love has brought me to this point and what I hope will be the opportunity to serve Orlando as a City Commissioner. Our city’s future is promising, but we need strong leaders to guide and shape that future. Our city will continue to grow, and we need to welcome new citizens and the changes that growth brings, but also remember our roots and hang on to the things that make Orlando special. While all the candidates are good people, I am the only one that combines and understanding and appreciation for Orlando’s past with a vision for it’s future. Further, no other candidate has the education, experience and understanding of the issues that I do. I am the candidate best equipped to serve you in making our city even greater. I hope that you’ll suport me as I try to make a difference.
